Thinking of redecorating but having some difficulty in choosing your colours, your furniture, or your features? Whether you are redecorating an office, or home office area, or if you are doing a more personal space in your home, using the rules of Feng Shui could be a great decorating technique for you to learn and utilise.

Feng Shui was originally a Chinese technique which was used to help encourage balance and harmony within the occupants of the places decorated using it. In more modern times Interior Designers, and specific Feng Shui consultants a like have been using the principals of Feng Shui to decorate many areas. But not everyone can afford to hire an Interior Designer or a Feng Shui consultant to decorate their home and office for them, but that is not necessary.

This is something which you can do for yourself. Learning the rules of Feng Shui decorating is not especially difficult and there are many great resources on the web, or in book shops, which you can utilise to great effect. And another one of these great resources is this article. This article will quickly run through some of the basic rules of the Chinese art of Feng Shui.

Firstly, all the elements and colours are highly important features in the world of Feng Shui. This is not a religion, but rather a creative belief that colours and elements can influence your mood. For example; the element of fire is said to encourage motivation, the element of water is supposed to focus the mind and encourage sensitivity, and the element of earth encourages creativity.

Lets start with Fire. It is easy to make a room designed to motivate you by using the fire element, this can be as simple as painting it red, or using red and orange accent colours. Or if the room is not an office but a more comfortable living space, the spread candles about the room, or have a fire in the room, as this will help you.

There are many small water features which are relatively cheap to buy. These are not just for the outside, there are some which can be bought that are specifically for a table or desk top. These will be small little water fountains that use a small pump to continue to make the water flow. Water is said to calm and steady the mind, keeping you focused, and so having a small water feature in your office can really help your work along.

Earth is perhaps the easiest and most commonly used of the three elements in a physical form. By bringing in plants and spreading them around the room, you can harness the nature power of the earth and unlock your creative nature.

If bringing in things such as fountains, candles and plants is not for you though, these rules can be implemented in the easiest way possible. Simply by painting your room using these colours. Have fiery reds to promote warmth and passion in your life. Cooling blues to calm and relax you, as wells helping you to distress. And if you have a creative job or lifestyle, paint a room greens and browns, a place which will allow your creativity to reign.
