This glorious black-maned lion, a giant in his prime, sleek, hard golden body almost close enough to touch - but you daren't. He is too glorious, too majestic, too confident is his beingness to desecrate.

He stretches out his thick neck and roars for all the world to know that he is here, that he is alive and well, that he is lion.

The air swells and vibrates as the frequencies ripple through your body. The sound hums across your heart strings, it throbs out through your extremities before it starts again rocking against you, heaving through the density of your body- a sensation indescribable, a sensation particular only to the magnificence of the roar of a lion on a warm, dark, starry night under the African skies.

The event is incomparable.

Once you have been alongside an African lion as he roars his message to the universe, you are forever changed.

Africa is wrapped up in bottomless mysteries and miracles, enveloping her in a cloak of magic and illusions. She is an astounding land to explore and adventure in.

South Africa provides many exciting means of getting to know the African bush intimately.

With a base in Camps Bay there are a great variety of options available to the visitor right on the doorstep. Camps Bay is a stones throw away from the Mother City of Cape Town. The Mother City has a whole host of leisure and adrenaline activities to keep everyone satisfied whilst visiting the Western Cape. Only a short drive of an hour or two at the most, brings one up close and personal with the African bush. There are a number of game farms from which to choose, some with the Big Five - lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo - other game farms and reserves with smaller game but offering different activities and insights into the circle of life in the veld.

One of the most exciting methods of discovering the creatures of the African bush is in an open-air game drive vehicle or truck. The ranger who acts as chauffer is generally well versed in the movements of the bush and is a fountain of knowledge regarding the various activities of the animals. These guides also appear to have a super-human skill in identifying animals in the bush, almost invisible to the naked eye and a great distance away.

At night, an entirely new world opens up to the visitor as the nocturnal animals emerge from their hiding places of the day. It is a surreal experience as the torches and spotlights come into play and the night glistens with the reflected light from eyes of creatures hiding in the long grasses, in the branches of trees or scurrying away to safety.

Share in the wealth of treasures the African bush offers and participate in the adventures of discovering for yourself the glory of Africa in her natural state.

Lekker Local Tips
* While out exploring the African bush at night in an open-air game drive vehicle, be sure to take warm clothing with you. The chill breeze at night can be a little uncomfortable but with a warm jacket and long pants, the drive can be a pleasure as the secrets of the night are revealed.
* Keep a pair of binocular handy at all times. Take a pair on the night game drives as well as the light from the spotlights on the vehicle provide enough light to see the creatures of the bush clearly and easily.
