Salt water aquarium fish require far more care and maintenance than their freshwater cousins. There are certain things which one needs to take into consideration when looking after salt water aquarium fish.

Below we offer some advice and information regarding certain things which you should be doing to make sure that you care for your salt water aquarium fish correctly. You don't need to just think about whether each breed of tropical fish is compatible with the others in the tank, but whether as they grow they have enough room to be able to comfortably swim around.

It is a good idea therefore to actually spend time learning as much as you can about the different species of saltwater fish available for placing in aquariums. This way you can then determine which of the many breeds including Angelfish, Clownfish, Tang's, Damsel's, Goby's and Hawkfish you actually want to put in your saltwater aquarium.

Salt Water Aquarium Fish Tank - Monitoring It Is Crucial

Regularly one should be checking the water in the tank to keep an eye out for any bacteria, parasites or fungi in it which can prove to be very harmful to the salt water aquarium fish in it. Sometimes parasites and diseases are able to get into the tank without you realizing because they have come from a new tropical fish which was infected and which you recently put into your salt water aquarium.

It is a good idea therefore to place any new salt water aquarium fish into a separate isolation tank for a number of days. This way you can keep and eye on them to ensure that they remain healthy and after this time if everything is okay then they can be moved into the main tank with your other fish. Usually an isolation tank is just a small plastic tank in which some gravel and plants have been placed.

Also never place more than a few new salt water aquarium fish into your tank at any one time. If you do this may cause levels of ammonia in the water to rise and is harmful to tropical fish and could lead to some of the ones you currently have in the tank dying.

Feeding Salt Water Aquarium Fish

The biggest problem faced by many who own salt water aquarium fish is that they don't know just how much food they should be providing theirs with. Many tropical fish die early simply because their owners have actually over fed them. Therefore spending time learning about the right kinds of foods and how much should be provided is crucial if you want your salt water aquarium fish to remain fit and healthy.

Too much food can cause problems with how effective the filtration system in the tank is. This in turn can lead to a buildup of waste which could be harmful to the salt water aquarium fish in it. Those salt water aquarium fish kept in a tank where waste has accumulated are more prone to be getting infections or diseases and this could result in some or all of the fish in the tank dying.
