Understanding Your Pregnancy

Aug 17, 2007
There are a lot of emotions that go with being pregnant. For many it is an exciting time filled with preparation and loving advice from friends and family. For others it can be a little scary if the pregnancy came as a surprise or if it is their first pregnancy. No matter how you feel about your expectant months it helps to be prepared by understanding what you will experience during the pregnancy.

The People Around You

As you go through the nine months of pregnancy you will constantly have mothers telling you what they experienced during their expectant months. Some mothers are very positive, whereas others give very negative feedback. No matter what you hear, you can be sure that your pregnancy will be different. So if you hear something negative, the best thing to do is let it slide off your back

Prepare for Pregnancy

The most rewarding thing about being pregnant is the fact that you will bring your child to this world and nothing can be a better experience than that. The feeling of having a human life grow within you is something you will wonder about everyday and enjoy every single moment of it. There are unfortunately some discomforts that will come along with pregnancy as well and for which you should be prepared before hand.

One noticeable feature is the change in your taste buds and this is something you will notice probably in the very first month of your pregnancy. You will have a never ending appetite and most of the time for the foods that you never had a liking before. You may also experience mood swings due to the hormonal imbalance that will occur during pregnancy and usually it manifests itself with huge inexplicable highs and lows.

Your body is yet another place where drastic changes will occur during pregnancy and for which no matter how prepared you are before hand you will still wonder about with each passing day. The question that every pregnant woman asks herself everyday is - how can my stomach stretch so much - well, it does and unfortunately it could also leave stretch marks after the baby is born.

The Trimesters

Most people follow a similar pattern with their pregnancy. The first trimester is like hiking up a slope, the second is like going down the slope, and the third is like hiking up a slightly steeper slope than the first. There are many symptoms that you may experience in your first trimester such as headaches, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, food aversions, food cravings, weight loss, etc. These negative symptoms are a result of your body adjusting to the new life inside you.

The second trimester of the pregnancy is the one that everyone looks forward to. Typically, most of your negative symptoms start to disappear here; if you couldn't eat before, you can eat now. If you felt fatigue before, you get a burst of energy now. This is the time where you usually feel great and want to get back to your old routine. Although you feel a lot better, it is really important that you remember to take good care of your body. Just as in the first trimester of your pregnancy, you have to eat healthy, exercise, and get plenty of rest. Forgetting to do these things can cause you to have problems, so make sure you put them first.

The third trimester of your pregnancy is where you start having some problems again. Some people say it isn't as hard as the first trimester, whereas others think it is worse. Everyone is different. One thing that nearly everyone experiences is a drop in energy. This is due to the fact that you start gaining weight a little faster, putting more strain on your body, and the baby is taking more nutrients away from you. It is key that you try to get off your feet when you can, because a lot of women experience swelling in these last three months. Although you may feel very tired, it is important that you continue with exercise. If you don't enjoy exercise, just remember that the more you stay healthy during your pregnancy, the fast you will lose weight postpartum.

The Changes that Come with the Arrival of a Baby

A baby is a responsibility for life; it will not stop once the pregnancy is over or once he or she learns to walk or goes to college. This is probably something all parents must consider preparing themselves for - a lifetime commitment.

Pregnancy brings the greatest of joys but also the greatest of responsibilities there will ever be so, prepare yourself mentally, physically and financially because you will need all three area and many others along the way to work in coordination.

There are many ups and downs of pregnancy but the truth is the ups always will always out number the downs. Having a baby is the most wonderful experience that there can ever be.
