Why Do You Need Tennis Lessons?
I recently started to play tennis. Since I needed some way to get into better shape this seemed like a good idea. My husband plays tennis regularly so I thought it would be something that we could do together, and get some exercise. Also it doesn't look very hard, you're just hitting a ball right? Wrong. After a few games of chasing that little furry ball all over the court and missing it 9 times out of 10 I decided to get myself some tennis lessons. Luckily our local community centre had a nice court and offered weekly lessons in the spring and summer to all skill types.
Our mid-size town also happens to be home to a few former tennis professionals, and they periodically offer group lessons for a reasonable amount. In case you are not in an area that hosts tennis pros, don't fret, there are many other places to find tennis lessons. Occasionally if you look hard enough you can even find places that offer free lessons.
If you have a gym or YMCA/YWCA in your area go and check them out. Or go to local tennis courts and see if they have times and contacts for tennis lessons. Ask tennis players if they know anywhere you can go to get lessons. Join a tennis league, many offer free lessons once you have joined and have reserved tennis courts for certain days of the week. Sign up your whole family; it's a great activity to do together.
Before starting playing tennis, you need to have the proper equipment. Whether you are new to the game or have been playing for years, you should consider getting a new tennis racquet. The racquets these days are super light and very strong. They are also quite affordable. While you're at it find yourself some nice tennis clothes to wear to the court. Also make sure that your sneakers are non-marking so they don't scuff up the court.
Even if you have played tennis before, you may wish to consider taking tennis lessons to help you improve. Or you can search the Internet for tennis playing pointers. They can give you an extra edge to your game that maybe you didn't have before. Some tennis forums also offer message boards where you can find someone to play with too.
