Sales Jobs in Michigan

By Julie Landry
Oct 13, 2008
Sales jobs are becoming very popular and are something to consider for anyone that enjoys working with people. In fact, considering working in sales may be just the right fit for someone looking for advancement if he or she is willing to work hard. Sales jobs are in high demand if you know where to look for them. Whether it's software, pharmaceutical, advertising, or plain old widgets you're into, you should be able to find the sales jobs you're looking for.

Sales jobs are advertised in a variety of ways, whether that be in the newspaper, sales offices, online jobs or on a particular company's website. I would suggest anyone who is really interested in sales work to approach potential employers directly as most large employers will get you to fill out an application form so that when positions become available they will refer to those applications for hiring.

Sales jobs are not interchangeable, nor are people. There are inside sales jobs, outside positions, jobs requiring strong closing skills, jobs stressing reliability, jobs demanding persistence and follow up, and jobs based on technical expertise -- the list is obviously pretty long. Sales jobs can offer good wages, especially if it combined with commission based pay rates and raises, although they are usually not always guaranteed, and work schedules can change constantly. Some employees must contribute 40 percent from their own paychecks toward health insurance as well, so take that into account when considering an offer.

Sales jobs are some of the most common jobs available, so you won't have to look far. Advertising and communications marketing executives or market research marketing assistant jobs are regularly posted online, plus direct marketing, internet marketing and product managers careers can be found online as well. Employment in a company is generally the number of jobs supported by the given level of sales. Jobs are generally not reported as full time equivalents, as they include part time and seasonal jobs.

Employees will be called upon to give presentations frequently in sales management jobs. They give presentations to new and existing clients, report on sales figures to company heads and provide input during product and development meetings. Employees must believe that good performance will not lead to negative consequences. Unfortunately, this is a likely consequence of commission plans. Employment has risen in several service providing industries but has changed little in the goods producing industries. In terms of specific industries, employment has grown in health care, financial activities, credit intermediation, insurance, securities, commodity contracts and investments.
