If you've ever had a carpet in your home get wet, then you know how difficult wet carpet drying can be. Many people would just as soon discard a carpet than hire a wet carpet drying service to restore the carpet. Don't assume that a wet carpet drying project is too expensive to undertake, especially if the carpet in question is one you care about or has been in your family for a long time.

There are as many do it yourself solutions to wet carpet drying as there are stars in the sky. They range from baking soda and vinegar to soda bicarbonate and vanilla extract. The main problem with all of these methods is that they are treating the symptom, which is the smell, and not the cause which is the water damage. The only real method to get the wet carpet smell out is to clean the entire carpet and then dry it immediately. Since most people do not have the expertise to do a proper job of wet carpet drying if the damage is serious, it is a job best left to a professional wet carpet drying company.

A professional wet carpet drying company can often be found in the yellow pages under flood cleanup. A reputable company will ask you several questions about the nature of the damage, the area of the carpet, the material of the carpet, and how long ago the damage occurred. It is easier to clean a carpet that has just been damaged than one that has had time to absorb the stain into the fibers, although even set stains can be repaired. The company should either be willing to give you an estimate over the telephone or offer to come see the carpet before quoting you a price. You should not have to pay for an estimate on water damage restoration for your carpet.

After you have chosen a company to work with you should check with the Better Business Bureau and see if they have any complaints lodged against them. If they do have a poor track record, proceed with caution. You should always contact more than one company for an estimate, but do so soon. The earlier they can get to the carpet the greater chance it can be one-hundred percent restored.

Before making your choice about which company to hire be certain to ask them what methods the use to fix your carpet. A good company will employ several methods at the same time. The will set up de-humidifiers, use vacuums, and should definitely use an anti-microbial agent. The biggest concern after the odor of a wet rug is that mold will set in.

Mold can cause serious health problems for your family and must not be left untreated. Many companies also offer a service that includes them coming back and reassessing the rug after it has been cleaned. The reason for this is to ensure the techniques they employed were successful and that the odor is gone, there is no mold, and they have a satisfied customer.
