While you need to ask yourself if your Halloween costume is appropriate to wear at the party in which you have been invited to, because you definitely do not want to offend anyone, especially the host of the party.
Private parties are after all private, and as long as you know some of the party goers, all should go well. Face the fact that some people are exhibitionists and once a year it is alright to be naughty and a party at someone's home is the perfect place to be naughty and cute in a safe environment where men will not get the wrong idea or if they do they are unlikely to act out in an inappropriate manner. Encourage your friends to dress up as you will look less like a spectacle than just another party goer wanting to have fun.
A sorority or group of girls looking hot is preferable to one girl looking out of place and trashy. Also consider changing into your costumes at the party to avoid the coming and going problems, because in all situations have your boyfriend or a boy friend along for the fun as you are going to look awesome. Although you are old enough to wear these costumes so you know not to drink too much and never drink and drive, because alcohol is a great equalizer and loosens inhibitions, but do not forget what you are wearing. Men are clever devils and getting their attention is fun and exciting, but there is nothing worse than a guy or a girl at a party drinking too much, while this is true of any party at any location, the added ingredient should be your costume not alcohol.
Parties for two or role playing parties are fun and the costumes are most definitely a requirement. The selection of costumes for intimate parties are growing and might be what you will need, although many sexy costumes can and do work in both situations. Many manufacturers offer bedroom costumes as well as costumes that can be worn in public, but remember that the bedroom costumes are often sheer and skimpier than their sexy costume cousins and less expensive. Halloween parties are a perfect opportunity to be naughty, but you can and should look hot but not cheap and trashy. Stockings are a great way to cover your legs and keep you warm late in October and be sure to have an alternate costume just in case things do not go as planned.
Often girls agree to dress in costumes that are revealing and risky and inevitably someone does not show up or chickens out, and either does not wear a costume or wears a less revealing costume. Also you may be going to multiple places that evening and what works in one party may be completely inappropriate in another. Also, do not forget that it gets cool or downright cold depending on where you live in late October and wear appropriate jackets or sweaters.
