Tips for Planting Garden Flowers

The type of area that you live in will determine your garden as well as factors to take into account when planting garden flowers. The soil, climate and natural landscape will all play a part in your garden. There are many types of garden you can have. You may wish to focus on a specific flower, theme or colour. Once you have your idea make sure you can actually have that garden as a citrus garden would not be suited to a cold climate area.

If you are planning a completely new garden or large renovation then you should construct a budget. Plants can be pricey and you need to see what you are capable of doing without going into debt. You need to figure in not only the plants, but equipment, and any labour or landscaping work you want done. The costs can quickly add up before you know what happened.

Native plants are always excellent flowers to have in your garden as it is guaranteed that they will thrive. But you can also plant more exotic flowers as many plants have been adapted to survive in a variety of conditions. If you are in need of ideas or information then you should consult a plant, flower, or gardening book.

With the increase in environmental awareness organic products are becoming increasingly available at an affordable price. It is up to you whether you decide to use chemicals or go organic. If you do use chemical products then make sure you completely understand how to use them and any side effects they might have on you or your garden.

It is important to have some sturdy gardening tools that will last. You also will need to prep your soil before planting as the majority of soils need a little help. Adding compost or manure to the soil helps to balance the pH as well as break down any clay spots that don't drain well or help to solidify very sandy soils. You can obtain compost or manure from a gardening store, local farmer, or local horse of animal farm. If you are really ambitious you can create your own compost pile from food scraps.

Areas of your garden will be in sun or shade so you should plan accordingly. Certain plants like roses and perennial flowers need a lot of sun but others like foxglove, hostas and geraniums prefer the shade. A little garden planning can go a very long way.
