For Your Health : Explaining Colon Cleansing

Aug 17, 2007
The way we live these days is significantly different from how people used to even fifty years back. There has been a remarkable change in our dietary habits. The intake of processed foods has increased manifold. What we are losing out in our diet is the amount of fiber that we need to take every day. Also the exercise levels have dropped significantly as most of us spend the entire day at our work sitting in front of the computer screen.

Colon cleansing is not something which is like rocket science. In fact, its roots can be traced back 4000 years to the Egyptian civilization when colon was thought to be the cause of all ailments. The idea was pretty much in vogue even during Restoration England. There has been a renewed interest in colon cleansing in the recent years. This is because of the sharp increase in colon-recto cancers, especially in the US and other related ailments. Colon cleansing is performed to keep the colon completely free of any toxic substances. It is also ensured that the colon retains its proper shape and size and can function at its optimal levels.

The most popular method of colon cleansing is colon hydrotherapy also referred to as colonic irrigation at times. This is one of the most effective ways of getting your colon cleansed. This process involves the insertion of a tube through your anus into the colon. Plenty of pure water is poured into the colon through the tube to flush out the contents of the colon. This is a natural method and doesn't involve any use of drugs. A colon hydrotherapy program would require you to attend 10 to 12 sessions over a period of two months, each session spanning for something around 45 to 60 minutes.

Also there are other alternatives like using the colon cleansing herbs as laxatives and a more recent introduction of an oxygen-based mixture which also works as a laxative.

But the best way to regularly have your colon cleansed I by following a healthy diet. Your diet should have enough of fiber content, anything between 25-30 grams so that there is enough roughage in the diet to allow regular bowel movements. This would also mean that you have to reduce the consumption of processed foods.

Also drink plenty of water, at least 3 liters a day. This will ensure that your system remains clean.
