Getting a flat stomach is a huge obsession for many people. If they could only find the right magic words or wand that would wave away the fat in their abdominals then they would be the happiest people around. There is nothing such as magic pill or cure for reducing the excess fats that make you to hide your tummy under tons of clothing. All the quick fixes that are touted in the market even in the form of tummy tucking machines are all ineffective.

Incidentally, Americans have been known to spend more than quarter of a billion dollars annually on tummy exercise machines. It is unfortunate that people are exploited in this way yet the answer to their quest is quietly trodden beneath their feet.

The only way in which one can get that flat sexy tummy is by adhering to a regimen that is three-fold i.e. weight training exercises, aerobic exercises, and eating from a well balanced diet composed of whole foods. This is the only way forward. As regards the machines that have been mentioned above the fact is that there is nothing like spot training i.e. the concentration of effort to improve a single body part which in this case refers to the tummy area.

Fat loss does not work in this way. If at all it is to be lost it is done uniformly all over the body. it is really unfortunate that most people tend to trash this advice but the truth is that spot training of the abdominal area will only increase the strength of the abs but as long as the abs are covered by the layers of fat then no significant progress will be observed.

The quest to have healthy abs is not unfounded. It is not purely cosmetic either. There is a huge importance attached to healthy abs. they help in maintaining your posture. This means that you are less likely to suffer from back injuries. Strong abs do protect the internal organs and they also play an important part in assisting the lungs' breathing efforts.

What can you do to get your abs in tip-top shape? You can decide to follow the 3 steps below:

* Deciding to adhere to a diet that is not only balanced and sourced from whole foods but one that is low in fat intake. This does not mean that fats must be absent.

* Deciding to actively pursue aerobic training albeit to a small extent

* Deciding to start doing abdominal exercise training. This training should focus on the lower, upper and middle abdomen plus the oblique muscles. One should not overlook the lower back in training as this is required to maintain the back and stomach muscles in equilibrium.

There are various types of workouts that will result in the positive development of the abdominal muscles. Such include the bicycle crunches, the captain's chair and the ab wheel. In the case of the aerobics you can go with jogging, elliptical training, and cycling.
