Enemas or Colon Hydrotherapy

Aug 17, 2007
Many people find it embarrassing to talk about colon health. But it is not something to be in denial of. Yes it is not something you would want to discuss during dinner but there is no harm in knowing the basics as it might affect you one day. In fact most Americans these days suffer from some sort of colon ailment or the other.

The human colon looks like a tube and it runs from the stomach to the anus. There are two parts to the colon the large intestine and the small intestine.

Only parts of the food we consume are actually digested by us, the rest which remains undigested accumulates into the colon which acts like a reservoir. This waste material needs to be eliminated from the system as soon as possible, preferably within 24 hours. However if the waste material stays over a day inside the colon it starts forming toxins and your colon begins to suffer.

Our colon is made to handle anything between 5 to 25 pounds of waste matter at a time. But since our dietary habits and our lifestyle have gone through a significant change our colon often finds it difficult to deal with the 'excess baggage'. Before it starts showing serious problems it is always a good idea to get our colon cleansed. This will ensure nothing untoward happens because of our negligence and we can enjoy a fit and healthy body all our life.

The practice of colon cleansing dates back to the Egyptian civilization, some 4000 years back. The procedure that was followed is known as enemas or colon hydrotherapy. This is a very safe and effectual way of cleansing the colon and the large intestine of the deposited wastes and the toxins produced by them. You don't need to take any drugs and everything is achieved by the process of natural peristalsis. Colon hydrotherapy provides a very deep cleaning and so the colon is at its best after such a cleansing. Colon cleansing also helps the skin, the liver and the kidneys to remain in their prime condition and they are able to perform more effectively. A clean colon also means that the nutrients in the food you have will be better absorbed by the body and you will no longer feel tired or fatigued. A colon hydrotherapy session lasts for about 45 minutes to an hour and one needs to go for 10 to 12 sessions in a period of 2 months to achieve complete results.
