Tips On How To Use Lubricants
Friction induces resistance and that causes extreme heat to be generated. This heat can damage the materials plus it requires more force to make the parts work if there is no lubricant.
That is definitely not to say that friction is bad because it is frictions which helps in everyday work without us knowing about it like automobiles on the road are not rolling and bumping into each other because of the friction.
Lubricants work as liquid or a waxy substance which come in between the two substances which were earlier rubbing against each other. That said in the earlier era of the industrial revolution the substances which were used in the machines were the vegetable oils which were produced out of the various things like the sunflower or groundnuts and even waxy substances take out tree bark.
With the advancement of science more sophisticated and more hybrid variety of lubricants have been invented which are now used in almost all the industries and have helped reduce the cost of maintenance of these machines.
The types of lubricants which were initially used were derived out the animals and were called as animal oils which were primarily the sperm oils or the goose grease. Vegetable oils were in use for large part of the industrial revolution till the time the petroleum and it refining was invented. Vegetable oils were generally the seed of plants and flowers like the linseed or the sunflower.
Nowadays the most commonly used lubricants are the mineral oils like those derived out of petroleum refining. Also the most recent lubricants to be used are the synthetic ones which are the silicones which work in extreme heat conditions.
Utmost importance should be given to a few factors which help in deciding which type of lubrications is needed in what type of situation. There are quite a few properties of lubricants which need to be understood. These properties are the viscosity of the lubricant as well as the specific gravity of the lubricant. These tow factors determine how well the lubricant will lubricate and under what conditions.
Lubrication is a must otherwise a lot of machines will simply fail as there is so much friction between the parts that they will stick together because of heat. Also make sure that while applying the lubricants you are using good and efficient mechanisms.
A lot depends on what type of application is being used to supply the lubricants to the affected parts of the machinery.
