Stand Up Comedy DVDs - Which Ones Are Going To Be Hot This Christmas?

By James Woolley
Dec 2, 2008
Here in the UK we always see a significant number of DVDs being released about this time of the year from some of the best stand up comedians around. This year is no different, but which DVDs are going to be at the top of everybody's wish list this Christmas?

Well I've narrowed the list down to five, and they are as follows:

1. Michael McIntyre - Live And Laughing.

This DVD is selling in huge numbers at the moment and it's easy to see why. Michael McIntyre is one of the best new comedians around at the moment, in my opinion, and he is gaining recognition all the time with appearances on several panel shows and a couple of hilarious performances on Live At The Apollo. This is one DVD that I shall definitely be looking forward to receiving this Christmas.

2. Lee Evans - Big - Live At The O2.

Lee Evans is a comedian who is well-known and well-loved not just in Britain but all around the world, and his tour this year sold out in record time. So this DVD should satisfy many of his fans because it consists of an incredible two and a half hours of brand new material.

3. Frankie Boyle Live.

Anyone who regularly watches Mock The Week on BBC2 will be well aware of Frankie Boyle because he is far and away the funniest comedian on that show. He steals the show every single week with his near-the-knuckle humour, which is both shocking and hilarious at the same time. The DVD of his stand-up show should therefore be brilliant if it's anywhere near as good as his performances on Mock The Week.

4. Dara O'Briain - Live In London.

Dara O'Briain is another comedian that fans of Mock The Week will be more than aware of as he is the presenter of the show. In my opinion we don't really get to see just how funny he is on this show, because if you have ever seen one of his stand up shows, you will know just how funny Dara O'Briain is, particularly when he interacts with the audience.

5. Bill Bailey - Tinselworm.

This DVD has been out for a good few weeks now but I still think it will be one of the best-selling stand up DVDs this Christmas. Bill Bailey is one of the nation's most popular comics and his stand up shows are simply brilliant because he is unique in that he brilliantly combines music with comedy.
