Bed Sheets and Linens Can Make or Break Your Sleeping Comfort

By Gary Vaughn
Dec 2, 2008
Bed sheets and linens are an essential part of our lives whether we want to realize that or not. Most of us spend around 8 hours every day, in our bed, sleeping. That may not seem like a lot of time but total that up for an entire year and it comes out to close to 3000 hours a year or almost 122 days. That's four months that you sleep out of every year. Wow, that's a lot of Zs. So, that makes the comfort of your bed and the bedding, that is used to produce that comfort, very important.

While it's true that some people can sleep on nails and get a good night's sleep, it's not so much the actual sleeping that brings us the great joy. Though a good night's sleep is important and does feel great, it's the sleeping environment that produces the real comfort. After all, when one is asleep, are they really consciously aware of what specific environment they are in? Probably not, however, the minutes spent just prior to actually going to sleep and the time spent just after awakening are important too, often even more important.

See, when you crawl into your bed at night, that is the time that the real comfort and awareness of your sleeping environment becomes evident. Are you entering a luxurious, smooth, crisp and extremely enjoyable atmosphere where you know you're going to enjoy the feel and texture of the bed sheets next to your skin? What about the perfect weight of the blankets or comforters? Don't they give you the feeling that you are going to be warm, cozy and totally comfortable as you sleep? Or are you simply settling for an "acceptable" surface upon which you can sleep? Maybe you're not looking forward to crawling under those covers as much as you are just going to sleep? See what I mean? There is a humongous difference and once you experience it, you have a tendency to want more of the luxurious type of atmosphere. It's just human nature to desire the obvious higher level of comfort.

A comfortable sleeping environment is essential for a good night's sleep but those linens and things that surround you during your pre-sleep and post-sleep moments are what you remember the most, even though you are not aware of it. To prove this point one only needs to purchase one single luxury set of bed linens and then sleep in them for one week. At the end of that week, change back to the former, simple, low-thread count, plain, normal everyday bedding that was used a week ago. The awareness of and the difference in the luxury linens will be astounding and chances are, you'll be hooked on the luxury bedding.

Bedding should not be taken for granted. All bedding is not the same. Even though some people believe that "bedding is bedding," the truth is that fine bed linens such as luxury bed sheets, pillows, comforters, blankets, quilts and most all types of luxury bed linens provide a much more comfortable sleep surrounding.

The difference is not only evident in the comfort of the more luxurious bedding linens but the appearance is very important, not to mention more obvious, as well. Luxury linens are made with higher quality fabrics that are often rich in color and texture. These luxurious bed linens usually hold their color and shape much longer than the less expensive and unrefined linens. They also have the feel of extravagance and opulence. When someone walks into your bedroom and sees your luxury linens they will know that you've got class, enjoy style and have decent values. If your bedroom is made up of poorly made fabrics and cheap linens they'll feel that you are not quite as refined as you may like for them to think. Bedroom linens do make a difference, even in social circles.

Don't settle for cheap linens. Buy the best that you can afford and as your income increases, splurge and buy a really luxurious set of top quality bed linens, including sheets, sleeping pillows, decorative pillows, a duvet, bedspread and all the fancy accessories. Once you do this, not only will you feel more pampered and upscale but your comfort level will augment your much anticipated full night's slumber. Sleep well, my friend.
