Mongolia: Inner and Outer, Pale Remnants of Terror
Chinese antiques shop knowledge is that there is one Mongolian people, and they are the northern neighbors of the Chinese, who finally built a wall to keep them out. Across east Asia there are many variants of peoples with these Chinese like features, so unlike the Indian or Persian body type south and west of the Himalaya Mountains. You meet the Oriental personality east of the mountain passes into Afghanistan. If you take the northern silk route you are tempting destiny.
For still today thieves are on the ready to take from a stranger. You are now on the edge of the Gobi desert, and the dividing line approaches between being in China's southern half of Mongolia, or you cross north into independent Mongolia. For this trip you can see sparseness everywhere. No hope of creating a civilization here, let alone a mighty force of humanity. When first Genghis, and then his grand son Kublai, poured west into Asia Minor and Europe across the Asian plans they created legends for and of themselves to this day.
After Kublai left a ruined Moscow the new Tzar called in Vikings, the Rus, from around Stockholm who came to protect the Tzar from any further Mongols. The Rus saw how strong they were and how weak the kings guard that they simply to over and renamed the land for themselves, the land of the Rus, and took over the kingdom. The Rus traded down with the Turks, and east with the Mongols. As the Rus kept expanding, and with events of recent centuries, it came to the interest of the growing in power Rus, is now Russians made deals as they could.
China was keen to see the end of a large northern Mongolia, so it has come to be that there was a Soviet Russia aligned Mongolia, and the always now part of China in the autonomous province of Inner Mongolia. But as history turns, now the trading and exvacating of raw minerals is being handled inside Independent Mongolia was mostly in trading with Canadian companies. It seems the fearsome warriors of the Mongolian past now do not trust their neighbors, who fear them, and who both offer to extract the minerals.
Mongolia says no, and Canadian companies are making messes, driving trucks, making roads and sluice ponds, all with the solemn agreement that it will be cleeaned up at the end of the project. Some of these mineral or oil deposits have lives of decades, some centuries. At any rate, most personalities could see that change is happening so quickly in areas so remote not so long ago. Inner Mongolia is a vast area, it covers more than 450,000 square miles.
Many of the young people are working for the exploration companies, or entire families are migrating into town. The capital of outer or real Mongolia is Ulan Bator, and many a young man in town will answer to the name of Genghis or to a lesser extent Kublai. Pony handlers since birth, some of the youth in the city are now riding motorcycles and a sense of adventure.
