You would probably be surprised to find out how long hearing aids have been around. I bet you would not have guessed that hearing aids go back centuries. Would you believe that the first hearing device was created in the 1500s. As you can guess, these crude devices were carved from wood and shaped very much like a megaphone. Three hundred years later this very crude product was made for the purpose of being distributed to the masses. First off, humans are living a lot longer now and so many more people are suffering from hearing loss. The baby boomer generation is only going to increase the demand for these hearing devices. It is no surprise that the estimates of those people over seventy have seventy five percent chance of having hearing loss and those between 65 and 75 have a quarter chance.
Modern day hearing aids have the same basic parts. Every hearing aid has a receiver, and amplifier, and a microphone. There are two basic types of hearing aids. There are the analog hearing aids, which have been around the longest. Then there are the digital hearing aids, which have been helping people with hearing loss for the last twenty years. Both types of hearing aids have their own pros and cons so it's important to consult with a professional before making a decision.
There are price differences between the two types of hearing aids which digital hearing aids usually being quite a bit more expensive. It is not uncommon for hearing aids to cost a couple thousand dollars. Hearing aids have always been expensive and that continues to be the case today although the Internet is making it easier to get better deals. It is thought that because the digital hearing aids are more expensive that they are better and that soon analog hearing aids will be phased out. This will never happen though because analog aids can help people with certain types of hearing loss that digital aids simply cannot accomplish.
