The Thinning Power of Dark Clothing
I do not know about you, but I have a bear of a time getting rid of those extra pounds. No matter how hard I try, they just refuse to go away. If you have the same problem, there is some good news. You can hide them with your outfit!
The trick to dressing thinner is to focus on proportions. If you properly dress for yours, you can enhance your better parts while limiting the impact of the areas you are unhappy with. Here are some guidelines.
Okay, the simple stuff should be covered early. To look thinner, we want to use dark colors. Tops and bottoms should be the same dark color, but can be different shades. We also want clean vertical lines wherever possible.
In general, bright colors draw the eye of observers. In contrast, dark colors tend to not draw the eye. Can you guess which should be used in which areas? Bright colors go with assets and dark ones cover problem areas.
The use of color to emphasize assets can be done a couple ways. You are trying to bring the eyes to the area, so consider using accessories to do it. A scarf, V neck, belt or shoes can completely change the look of an outfit.
Along this same theme, use foundational garments to create cleaner lines in bad areas while at the same time emphasizing your stronger points. Shoulder pads and the right style of bra can make a world of difference in your appearance.
As you well know, fabrics come in many styles and widths. Go with thin fabrics that are not clingy. Bulkier, heavy fabrics should be avoided like the plague. They will not enhance a thinner look, so there simply is no need for them.
A common mistake many women make is to wear tighter clothes. This does not make you look thinner. If anything, it can enhance your negatives. A clean cut that allows cloth to move seamlessly over a trouble area is a much better look.
If you want to really look thinner, go for clean looks with dark clothes. Use accessories and color sparingly to bring the eye to the part of the outfit you want people to notice. Other than that, emphasize the vertical as much as possible.
Prints are a trouble area when trying to look thinner. Generally, they should be avoided. They tend to draw attention to areas that might not be your best and the focus can shift depending on the lighting you are in.
Ah, but you cannot live without some of your prints. Well, the only exception that I have ever seen work is with prints that are worn only in the area to be accentuated. Since prints draw attention, it can work out well.
Dressing to look thinner is not as hard as you might think. Emphasize your assets. Wear clean cut clothing. Dark colors go over negative areas with color over positives. Accessories to add emphasis and you are on your way to looking thinner.
