What Water Can Do To Your Home's Foundation
If there has been a flood, you will need to check your foundation because there can be a lot of damage done to it. Do you know what kind of damage I am taking about? Serious damage that can also damage your house. It can become very unsafe for your family to live in. I'm talking about cracks, cave ins, breakage, sinking, lots and lots of water damage, and other stuff as well. Lots and lot of rain over time can do this as well by damaging the ground, and it is even worse if you are on a hill because the ground can become really soft, and it can shift from the foundation.
If the water damage caused cracks in there, it can break the foundation apart and cause more cracks to appear, making your house more and more vulnerable. Its air will get into your home, and it can cause cracks in the wood of your house as well. Your house can slant down, and it can make parts of your home break away from itself.
The breakage from the foundation will cause damage your home, the way it sets, and can make it unstable, causing it to become weak. You will have to get out of there before you get hurt. The breakage can start by the littlest boards and work its way up through your home, or it can start by breaking big areas of the wall, which makes it go much faster.
If the ground is really soft, your foundation can sink in, which will make your home lean or just make the room on the side of the home that is sinking lean and sink into the ground. I have seen houses like this and it is not good. It can be quite scary to be in because the house looks very unsafe, which is unsafe, and you pray it doesn't fall apart.
After all of this, it can make it cave in from the side or whereever the foundation is cracked or broken. But normally the county condones the house before this can happen, or they will just tear it down. Cave ins are serious, and they can happen so watch out.
This is why it is good to check your foundation and your home for these things so this will not happen to you. You want to keep your family out of harm and to keep them safe so do what needs to be done if you have had a flood.
