Number One Way To Loose Weight - Strength Training Creed

By Mike McCoy
Dec 3, 2008
There are a lot of ways to lose weight. Many people see varying degrees of success with the popular weight loss programs on the market, most of which focus solely on food and portion size. However, when you concentrate only on food as a way to loose weight, the chances of gaining that weight back are significant. Food choices are vital, but most people already know what types of food they should (or shouldn't) be eating. What people tend not to acknowledge is the fact that exercise is every bit as important as the food you eat. However, the focus shouldn't be on exercise per se, but rather an increase in metabolism. In order to lose weight in a healthy way, it's critical to understand the connection between exercise and metabolism, and what you can do to make the most of your body's ability to shed pounds.

Here are five ways to increase your metabolism, thereby increasing the potential to lose weight:

Strength training is the number one way to lose weight, and lose it fast. If you increase your muscle mass, this will effectively increase the number of calories burned, even when the body is at rest. The more active your muscles are, the more efficient the body becomes at burning the fuel that you provide it.

Cardiovascular training. This is the heart-healthy exercise that targets fat, burning off excess pounds as fuel. This happens directly after 20 minutes of training.

Stay hydrated. The importance of staying hydrated cannot be understated! Drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day sounds so simple, but many people struggle with it. Just remember, nothing is more essential to the body's function than maintaining proper hydration; without it, the body simply cannot do what it is meant to do. Water helps with maintaining your metabolism, it suppresses the appetite naturally, decreases bloating and water retention, and alleviates constipation. It also decreases fat deposition. If you drink enough water, the kidneys will remove the toxins from your body instead of the liver, allowing the liver to metabolize more fat, which is what it is supposed to be doing.

Eat plenty of food. Yes, I just said eat a lot: just not all at once. Eating six small, balanced meals a day will allow your body to better utilize the fuel that you provide it, in addition to keeping your blood sugar and energy at more stable levels. Your body will continuously remain fueled and therefore run more efficiently.

Eat fat burning foods. High-fiber foods, such as fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes, do a better job of burning fat than others. Fiber slows digestion and absorption of food, which decreases sugar cravings. It also binds with fat, which decreases fat absorption, and increases transit time allowing fewer toxins in the liver.

Fat, sugar, and alcohol slow down your metabolism. Sadly, these are some favorite staples of our modern diet, the very reason the obesity epidemic exists in the first place! However, utilizing the five metabolism-boosting tricks above will help you create a healthier, fitter, body and achieve the permanent weight loss you've always wanted.
