Beautiful In White: Modest Wedding Gowns

By Art Gib

Not all brides are comfortable wearing a strapless gown or one with a plunging neckline, plunging back, or even no back at all! The reasons for this are many: most of us don't have the figures of fashion models and prefer to show a little less skin; perhaps the event will be a winter wedding, where a dress made with more fabric might be considered more appropriate to the style of the season; some brides choose extremely modest designs for religious reasons.

Whatever the circumstances may be, choosing her wedding gown is an essential part of a prospective bride's joyous preparation for her big day: she should be able to wear whatever she is most comfortable in, and feel beautiful as well.

There are many options for a bride to choose from when searching for that perfect modest dress. Here are some ideas to help her find just the right one.

The internet has made shopping for a modest dress so much easier than it was even just a few short years ago! Do you live in a small town where there is not a gown store to be found? Or does your city simply not have a shop containing a wide variety of modest designs? No problem: with the touch of a button, the most exquisite array of gowns is at your very fingertips. Many internet vendors also have a store in the bride's town that she may not have known about; but most of these sites deal in mail-order.

Most websites that sell wedding dresses are reputable; the one very important feature to look for is whether or not they offer a secure system of payment. If the dress arrives and needs a little modification, that problem can be easily solved with aid of a skilled local seamstress.

A bride may just be able to create a modest dress out of one that isn't! If she finds a dress at a local shop that she loves but isn't modest enough to suit her tastes, a professional seamstress should be able to make necessary alterations either by adding more fabric in specific places or creating a little jacket to cover bare shoulders.

Finally, if a bride is still struggling to find that perfect dress, she may wish to simply design one herself. She may combine pictures from magazines with examples from the internet, and then take all of her ideas (along with fabric swatches, notions, and accessories) to a seamstress skilled in dressmaking.

Whatever method a bride uses to find or create that perfect dress, the most important thing to remember is that it should help her feel comfortable and beautiful, enabling her to truly enjoy one of the most important days of her life.
