Buying yourself a used Audi is an exciting purchase however it does require a little prior planning. Despite their highly respectable reputation, you still need to show a little caution when buying second hand and there's a few things you should check before handing over your cash.

One you have decided upon the make or model of the used Audi you want to buy, it's advisable to research the acceptable price to pay for what you are after. There are plenty of website that allows you to enter the car details and in return, will suggest a realistic price to pay for that car. If you can't afford the price-tag, you could look at finance options. Many Audi car dealerships will offer personal car leasing, where you pay a monthly fee over 12, 24 or 36 months for the pleasure of driving a car that may usually be out of your price range.

While considering finance, it is worth finding out how much it will cost to insure your used Audi. Depending on the engine size and model for example, the insurance price will vary and depending on whether you plan on paying the sum outright or paying your insurance on a monthly basis, may affect what you can afford.

The most advisable way to buy a used Audi is from is an approved Audi dealership. Dealerships tend to offer warranties and thorough inspection checks to give you peace of mind that you are buying a quality car. Skilled engineers will look over the entire car and make sure it is fully serviceable before you leave the forecourt.

It is also essential that you go for a test drive before you hand over your money. Check the undercarriage, engine and body for rust, tyres for wear or any damage and make sure you are comfortable that the car drives safely and reliably. If there are any issue that bother you, make sure you discuss them with the seller and if it's a dealership, they are likely to be able to correct them for you before you drive away.

While on your test drive, try to get out on the main road so you can test out the acceleration and the cars handling. Test the brakes and the steering, to make sure everything is in good working order. Once you've finished on your test drive and given the car a good run around, it's a good idea to inspect the engine for any leaks, odours or smoke.

The interior of the car is equally important so be sure to check lights work, radio / CD players, air conditioning and central locking function properly and that the general interior is clean, comfortable and an adequate size for your requirements.

Be sure to check the oil levels, the coolant and radiator for any leaks or corrosion. Any problems here will need to be corrected before you buy or you could end up paying a lot more than you bargained for.
Finally all car purchases should come with service history. Buying a used Audi from a dealership will ensure you are supplied with this, but however if you are buying privately, make sure the seller supplies you with full history of your car. Any previous damage that is not recorded and brought to your knowledge will only lead to problems further down the line.

The choice of where you buy your used Audi may come down to your budget or convenience however buying from an Audi dealership is likely gives you the most peace of mind. While Audi carries with it an excellent reputation for the most advanced technology, durability and finish, if the car has had previous owners then you still need to make sure the condition is up to scratch to match the high class reputation.
