Are You Allowing Stress To Affect Your Attitude?

The dictionary defines stress as; pressure, strain, a force that tends to distort the body; intense effort; a factor that induces bodily or mental tension. Believe it or not, your past experiences have a lot to do with the way you perceive stress now. And depending on what you have learned from those experiences, can either hurt you or help you, in most cases however, it hurts people instead of helping them. One of the most influential factors to govern your behavior is how you feel inside; which in turn usually rises up from how you think and or your attitude.

Stress is one of the worst things in the world and can haphazardly lead to all kinds of illnesses. Not only can it make you tired, irritable, sad, and angry but it can also make you negative, it can lead to heart attacks, stroke, and has even been linked to cancer!

A Doctor by the name of Robert S. Eliot who is also the author of a book called "Is It Worth It?" believes that there is major evidence that uncontrolled stress can lead to all sorts of negative endings, and yes, even death. If you feel tension, nervous, or knots in your stomach you are suffering from stress. Most of us know that stress can come from all areas of our lives including family, work, environment, bills, and so on and so forth.

If your having problems dealing with this stress there are techniques you can utilize to help cope with it, and with in this article I'm going to give you a few pointers of where and how you can start executing these "tips".

- First and foremost, exercise has been one of the best proven methods for not only enhancing your life health wise, but stress wise as well. Even just 10 minutes a day can relive any stress you may have. And it actually forces your mind and body to release any negative energies and in turn creates positive energies which of course can make your life less difficult to manage.

- Your thoughts and controlling how you think as said above will have a huge impact on not only lowering your stress levels but helping you to cope with stress better, in a different way than you might be now. I like to use a line that they use in AA meetings; "One day at a time--this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful it will be worth remembering." This is a great quote or motto that we all can use. A lot of the time we worry about the next day or the next week or even the next month and this can cause major stress!

- Another thing I like to do, which is something I have read in a lot of positive thinking books, is to make a list of goals. These goals CAN be for the present but for the most part, if you live a stressful life or have a stressful job, make a task list with the things you need to get done today! This will not only keep you from getting overwhelmed which causes stress, but it will also keep you organized. Being unorganized will cause a huge mass of stress, and if you can do one small thing, like make a task list, do it!

- And lastly, if you get too stressed out either at work, or at home; take a breather. No one is going to bash you or think you are less of a person simply because you take a break for a few minutes to regain composure.

Obviously you don't want to walk away from your problems, or if someone if talking to you about something you don't agree with, but if you are having a stress filled day and need to take even 5 minutes; then you owe it to yourself. The above list is a reasonably small list of actions you can take to reduce stress in your life, but there are several other ways to reduce stress or cut it out almost completely.

It's literally impossible to avoid having stress in your life, however, you can choose how your going to deal with that stress differently. For instance, maybe you have a job that you hate, or someone that really grinds on your very last nerve. Through thinking and feeling differently towards these situations, you can bring your high stress levels down to a lower more controlling level. This doesn't mean your ignoring the stress, this simple means that your teaching yourself how to manage the stress and deal with it in another way, a less stressful way!
