How Will You Know You've Reached Your Goals?
Many people start of journeys in the direction of their goals while never quite considering how they'll know once they have reached them.
Isn't that reckless? You couldn't drive someplace with no destination in mind, could you? Would that even be possible? You would end up aimlessly wandering until your gas tank was empty, or until you got somewhere close to your goal, but not the proverbial "cigar".
It's the same as in life and business.
If you don't have a specific place in mind, you really aren't going anywhere. You've got to give yourself something to aim for. You must know why you want the things that you want for specific reasons, specific purposes. Too vague, and you'll just end up spinning your wheels.
You must have your destination already planned out so you can get there eventually.
It may sound a little crazy, but it really makes sense. If you don't have a clear picture in mind, how can you know if the things you are doing are effectively moving you closer to that vision, or are actually moving you much farther away?
There isn't any way you can.
You can not possibly expect to create the life you desire if you have no idea what that life is.
To clarify, I'm not saying you have to know exactly what it is you will do every step of the way, or exactly how things are going to be when you get to your goal, but I am saying that you must have a clear picture of your final goal so you can keep making progress in one direction instead of a hundred at once.
What should that picture look like?
It is all up to you, and only you. You know what pushes your buttons and what drives you to get things done, so you have to decide how that picture appears to you. There are some pointers you will want to keep in mind when making that image.
First, get to the core of your goal. Figure out why you want what it is that you want, and get very specific. The more specific, the better!
Secondly, with this goal in mind, ask yourself, "How do I know I have this, once I am there?" This could be a check for $100k, or the keys to a brand new house that you had always dreamed about. Whatever it is, see it as vividly as you possibly can.
If you do these two things, I promise you will achieve more than you thought possible in a much shorter time than you thought you could. You will always be moving in the right direction as opposed to hundreds at once that get you nowhere fast, so it's pretty much a guarantee.
