Have a Heineken In Amsterdam
Heineken is one of the worlds best known beers, being sold in 170 countries, and has 110 breweries on a visit to Amsterdam you have the opportunity to visit one.
There are two options for a Heineken Brewery tour; you can either go to Zoeterwoude which is located around 45 minutes out of Amsterdam where you can take a two and half hour tour which includes a movie, a guided tour of the factory which was opened in 1975 and of course, a tasting, or you can visit the Heineken Experience in Amsterdam.
The Heineken Experience is homed in the historic Heineken Brewery in Amsterdam which has been converted into a multi media interactive visitor's centre with 18 attractions spread over four floors. In the course of your visit you will be able see all the sportsmen and clubs sponsored by Heineken as well as all the adverts Heineken have used over the last 140 years; you can taste the beers, learn about brewing, and even take part in the process from the inside of the bottle! There's loads to do at the Heineken Experience, and the majority of it isn't gimmicky. Heineken lovers will certainly love this experience but even those who aren't mad about their beer will have a great time.
The building itself of the historic Heineken Brewery was really where the Heineken story began. Originally called De Hooiberg, or the Haystack, it was bought by Gerard Adriaan in 1864 who changed the name in 1873 to Heineken's Bierbrouwerij Maatschappij, and this was the first Heineken brewery the second was to be opened soon after in 1886 in Rotterdam.
The Heineken Experience costs 15 and must be booked ahead of time. Opening times are Tuesdays through Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. but the last tickets are sold at 5.30 p.m. The Heineken Experience isn't difficult to find as the building itself is a national land mark and listed building; to get there you can take the 16, 24 or 25 tram from the central station, or the 7 or 10 from Leidseplein; alternatively you can take one of the many canal cruisers or river taxis and get dropped off right outside.
The Heineken Experience is situated at Stadhouderskade 78, a road that has loads of hotels close to it. In this area you can chose from hotels for as little as 45 per night, or up to a couple of hundred Euros. This in general is a good location due to its centrality and the diversity of amenities in the area from bars to restaurants, from apartments to hotels. For those with a business interest, the Heineken Experience also offers meeting rooms and event locations, meaning that one of the nearby hotels could easily by booked in conjunction with the Heineken Experience for a conference with a difference.
