Tips For Renting a Limousine

By Art Gib

When people have a special occasion come along in their lives, they often want to rent a limo, whether it's for graduation, a special birthday, a wedding, or to celebrate another special occasion. Often the last things on the mind in these instances are the questions you should really be asking when you finally decide to rent that New York limo. Here, then, are some of the important considerations to be weighed in deciding to rent a limousine.

First, you need to remember that the transportation is a very important factor in the success of your event. If you arrive 30 minutes late to your own wedding, or if a van shows up when you are expecting a Town Car, you're not going to be happy. It is best to work out all the fine details as far in advance as possible.

One of the important, but overlooked, aspects is to make sure the company has all its licenses in order. You should check for a business license, business registration with the state, a bond, if it's required, and proof of insurance. When you call them to make your reservation, besides asking if they have a particular vehicle type available, you should also check to make sure they are not farming out your reservation to another company, as is sometimes the case with limousine rentals. It would be cheaper for you to rent from the source company, rather than a middle man, because you're paying for two services, rather than one.

Are you paying a flat rate, or by the hour? Are you being charged for wait time? Are the drivers trained and individually licensed, and is there a dress code for them? For some renters, the extras are important as well. Ask about in-car amenities and don't assume all cars have a hot tub, a full bar, and a surround sound entertainment system. Decide what features are important you, and ask for them. Based upon your requests, the person taking the reservation will direct you into a particular vehicle of theirs. If the reservation is going to be used to surprise a loved one, ask about the little extras like flowers and champagne in the car. If they're allowed, is there an extra charge for them? The same goes for pets. Some companies don't allow them, or have restrictions on what types of pets are allowed, or charge for pets.

All in all, the transportation for your big day will go a lot easier if you ask the right questions in the beginning, rather than being surprised and disappointed in the end.
