What Makes an Internet Marketing Coach So Smart

By Keith Baxter
Dec 16, 2008
When hearing the recent talk about getting an education in internet marketing, learning the ropes, and why someone needs to teach you these things, do you ask yourself, What makes an internet marketing coach so smart? What makes them the expert in internet marketing and who gave them this title?

There are two types of internet marketing coaches, those that have lived it and those that have seen or heard about it.

Do They Have to Get Degrees to Teach

Holding a degree or having passed a particular class doesn't make you a great internet marketing coach. What makes you great is displayed through your work, just as an artist displays their paintings or artwork. Proven success and results are what label a person as an expert in their field. Having 3-minutes of fame and having made half a million with internet marketing doesn't make you an expert, it makes you lucky. If you haven't done anything else since then consider it chance, or even an act of God, but it's not a result of expertise.

When considering an internet marketing coach, you have to distinguish between those who walk the walk and those who talk the talk. Coaches who want to share their knowledge with others are not so focused on how much money they've made, but rather, how well they devised a plan to make it. Those who are money hungry, tend to focus on what they have and not what they can offer you.

Research is the key to finding a marketing coach that is committed to giving and not taking. It's not too hard to find. In fact, if you do a quick search on the internet, you can quickly see from the advertisements exactly what I mean. That's not to say that you won't see them boasting about their wealth (its part of marketing) This is my 10 bedroom house, here's my beautiful boat, that's all part of the game. I would suggest talking with several different coaches before committing to anything and listen to how many I's and me's you hear versus the You's. It really should be about you, what you want to achieve, what your goals are, and what they can do to help you succeed. If you don't get that, I would suggest moving on down the list until you find it.

There are a number of hard-working internet marketers who started out just where you are now and they've worked their way up the ranks and now they want to share that with others. I don't know about you, but I would prefer someone who's been there, done that as opposed to someone who took a few courses online and made a few dollars with marketing and now they think they can teach you something.
