Dating When You Are A Single Parent
Being a single parent can be really challenging as well as very rewarding. While there are some really great feel good moments as a single parent, there are also those moments where you want more of a social life and you want to meet someone who will understand you, your children, and your situation for what it is. It can be difficult to date when you are single to date, let alone find anyone who is worth going on a second date with or someone that you would consider getting serious with.
If you have a history of not meeting anyone worth dating, you need to look at the facts. The fact of the matter is that when you have kids you are cutting the eligible candidates in half, if not by more just by being a single parent.
The reason for this may be that some of the people that you would date don't want kids or they just don't fit into your life or they do not really fit into what you see for yourself in the future. It's important before you become jaded to realize that you have just as much to do with the slim pickings as the other singles because you have a responsibility to your children to be pickier when dating than you might have been otherwise.
Many people feel less marketable when they have kids, but you shouldn't give into this school of thought. There are a lot of things that you actually prove about yourself and your character when you are a single parent such as.
You're able to cope with a lot of responsibility on your own, You are highly responsible, You're a very caring individual, You're are an awesome parent, You are a very organized person, You have serious domestic abilities
As you can see, you have some very marketable skills. A lot of married as well as single people wish that they could market themselves in these ways, so don't overlook what you do have to offer and what you can speak positive of about yourself.
Tell your children that you are dating so that you don't have the burden of hiding it Be honest and straight forward about having children. Don't talk too much about your children until you know that the person you are dating is comfortable with it. Show your date that you are more than a single parent by talking to them about things that you enjoy aside from your children, Set your dating goals and stick to them.
These goals will help to ensure that you get what you want from dating while being sure that you are dating people who truly understand what your commitments are, but also understand that you can be a lot of fun and that you are a person outside of being a parent.
