Be Sure To Facilitate Buying Rather Than Hinder It
eBay has gone a long way towards helping sellers in their endeavors, by making it easier for buyers. They've automated the entire process and provided an easy way for buyers to pay instantly through Paypal. Searching for items is easy using the Keyword Search Tool and prospective buyers can click a link to send any questions they might have to the seller, well in advance of the auction's close.
But as simplified as the system is, it can't run your business for you. You still need to be on the ball, watching your listings, addressing any issues, following up on payments and carefully packaging and shipping each item as payment is received.
Everyone buys for their own reasons. What makes one person bid on an item might not even factor into the equation for the next. It's for this reason that it's usually best to uncover every key detail about the item and bring it front and center.
Supply all the answers, every conceivable detail, solution, or response to possible objections. Leave no stone unturned. By doing so, you're eliminating all possible reasons not to do business with you and thereby opening the doors of your eBay showroom to larger and larger crowds.
It's also vitally important to maintain a Feedback Rating as close to 100 percent positive as you possibly can. This isn't too difficult to do, as long as you accurately represent your items and deliver stellar customer service. This involves answering questions, packaging items and shipping them out in a prompt, professional manner day in and day out.
Let people buy on their own terms. Paypal is a terrific tool, but it's not the favorite of all eBayers. If you only accept Paypal in your auctions, you will automatically turn away those who prefer to pay by other methods. Most do favor Paypal, but I've also received many payments (even recently) by Money Order, Check and even Cash in several different currencies.
Occasionally I'll spot a Seller who has included a message such as Absolutely No Paypal Accepted. One can only wonder why. But if some Sellers aren't accepting it, you can bet there's plenty of buyers who prefer other methods too. If you've got your own merchant account, you can always use that to process your eBay sales, as long as it complies with the terms of the agreement between you and your service provider, or bank.
Bottom line is you want to make it as inviting and risk-free as possible for everyone who's even remotely interested in your item to go ahead and place their bids.
Break down every barrier to this crucial step. Don't give them any reason to bypass you only to spend their money elsewhere. You want maximum attention, interest, and action, that's the only way to max-out your returns.
