Gambling On Horse Racing Like The Pros

Aug 17, 2007
If you have done your homework, you might know that some horses are jumpy while others are not. If this is the case and you see a horse that is jumpy when it should not be, this could indicate that something might be wrong, and it could be wise not to bet on this horse.

Always take a few minutes to watch the horses before you bet. See how they move. Look up the track record of each horse. Do your research for the horse you want to bet on. You might find some information about horses before you decide to be place a bet.

With horse racing the betting can happen right at the track. You don't have to worry about finding anyone online or finding someone to place a bet for you. You can also find many books to give you more information about horse betting. But most of all you need to see the horse you bet on before the horse steps onto the track.

Seeing the way the horse moves and acts before a race will give you an advantage to your betting. If you are planning on being serious, keep a race book. Write down names of horses and everything else that can be useful. Most of all this is a trading of money, keep a budget in mind, and step back if you see yourself going in too deep.

In order for you to really understand what is going on at the race track and to fit in with everyone else that is betting you will need to learn the terminology of horse racing.

Here are some terms that will come in handy while betting. Most will help you start gathering knowledge on horses and races. This information might help you decide on how you want to start betting on race horses.

Across the board, this is when you bet for a horse to win, place and show.
Board, the tote board where all the odds are placed. This will have your betting pool here and extra race information.
Closer, a horse that runs best in the latter part of the race. They like to hang back and come from the back to win.
Daily Double, this is a type of wager, calling for the selection of winners of two races. This is normally first and second place.
Fast Track, the track is dry, fast and even.
Furlong, one-eighth of a mile. 200 yards or 660 feet.
In the Money: finishing first, second or third.
Lock, slang for sure thing. A winner.
Odds-on, odds of less then even money.
Win bet, wager on a horse to finish first.

There are many other terms that you can learn. But if you're placing a few bets most of these are the best ones to know. Even if you do not remember most of them, if you stick around the track long enough you will pick up a lot more terminology.

Since you are learning about horse betting you need to know about one of the biggest horse races. The Triple Crown is a big event in the world of horse racing and in the world of horse betting. The greatest horses come for the first race of the Triple Crown. Going from there you have a lot of horses to pick from for the first race.

The derby horses will have won many races to get to where they are. If you are at the track for derby day then take the time to look at the horses that are in the big race. If you are experienced in betting on horses you should be able to tell if something is off by the way the horses walk or act.

From there it is off to the other two races. There is a very high chance that the derby winner will win the second race, but a very low chance that a fresh horse will come into the race to win the second race. For the third race the chances are very low that the horse that won two of three races will sweep all three races.

If you want to play the odds then go with the horse that has the best chance of winning. You'll get a small return back, but other then that nothing much more. Betting on a horse that has a less chance to win will give you a better return, but not much of a chance of actually winning. Write down everything that you've learned. This will help you remember everything later when it comes to making a decision on whom to bet on.

Always remember when to quit. You do not want to find your self in debt or getting your car taken by the bank. If you are betting to win money to pay off debt, then I suggest that you stop right now before you ruin your life.
