A grape is the non-climacteric fruit that grows on the perennial and deciduous woody vines of the genus Vitis. Grapes can be eaten raw or used for making jam, juice, jelly, vinegar, wine, grape seed extracts and grape seed oil. Comparing diets among western countries, researchers have discovered that although the French tend to eat higher levels of animal fat, surprisingly the incidence of heart disease remains low in France, a phenomenon named the French Paradox and thought to occur from protective benefits of regularly consuming red wine.

You often thought about an apple diet but always stayed away from grapes because you never considered the positive or negative aspect of this little fruit. Grapes can be beneficial to health also. Grapes are good sources of nutrients essential for our body and its health benefits are high when compared to many other fruits. In most of Europe, dried grapes are universally referred to as 'raisins' or the local equivalent. In the UK, three different varieties are recognized, forcing the EU to use the term Dried vine fruit in official documents. A raisin is any dried grape.

Grapes are rich in anthocyanins, flavones, geraniol, linalol, nerol and tannins. Experts believe these compounds protect against cancer. In addition, red grapes contain resveratrol which is believed to help reduce cholesterol and protect the heart. Grapes also contain some potassium. Grapes are also beneficial for cleansing and detoxing the system.

While raisin is a French loanword, the word in French refers to the fresh fruit; grappe (whence the English grape is derived) refers to the bunch (as in une grappe de raisins). A currant is a dried Zante grape, the name being a corruption of the French raisin de Corinthe (Corinth grape). Note also that currant has come to refer also to the blackcurrant and redcurrant, two berries completely unrelated to grapes. A sultana was originally a raisin made from a specific type of grape of Turkish origin, but the word is now applied to raisins made from common grapes and chemically treated to resemble the traditional sultana.

Grape seeds are powerful antioxidants which blocks premature aging and diseases by controlling free radicals. Some grape seed extracts are known to have 50 times the nutritional value of vitamin E and C. They also have anti viral, anti carcinogenic properties which ensure smooth blood circulation. Grape skins are nutritious too. They destroy cancer cells in the human body.

Grape needs more saliva and digestive juices to make its passage through the human digestive system or it may cause cramps. It has high potassium contents which triggers alkaline balance and stimulates the heart and kidney processes. Ignoring the minor side effects of grapes and taking advantage of its weight loss benefits and health profits, you must add grapes to your everyday fruit diet.

You can pick from any of your favorite colored grapes but eat it regularly and enjoy a new health benefit plan for life. Cardiovascular researchers have discovered another miraculous seed which helps people with high blood pressure. The patients who participated at the study have learned the true benefits of a simple grape seed extract. It seems U.S. researchers have made another step forward in improving heart functions.

The solution is a mixture of different types of grapes: green, red and black. This was, after wards blended into the lab rats diet,in the form of a powder. The researchers observed then the differences between the rats that consume the mixture of grapes and the other ones, which have not received the grape powder. The rats the researcher chose were part of a special breed which develop high blood pressure when eating salty foods.
