Document drying refers to the process of restoring wet paper documents to their erstwhile state. In the event of a flood or for that matter an occasional heavy rainfall can make matters worse when it comes to your paper documents. Even though most of our relevant and confidential data is stored on our personal computers these days, there are certain paper documents which cannot be done away with. These include important certificates, legal documents and most importantly deals and agreements. Though we take every possible step to ensure their safety from such natural disasters, some of these might get damaged as well. The availability of the technique of document drying has enabled us to breathe a sigh of relief just in case there is some unforeseen calamity.

The process of document drying is a highly specialized one and therefore cannot be carried out by all and sundry. You need to call for professional help in this regard. There are several companies that may come to your rescue. After such a disaster, all you need to do is just give them a call. Wet documents , maps and blueprints can be restored by processes like deodorizing that removes any odor from the documents, vacuum freeze drying, relabeling, removal of mold, soot and surface grime, indexing and reordering of the affected documents, microfilming and scanning of the wet documents and re jacketing of binders and files.

However, the treatment of document drying differs with each document. Books require a different mode of treatment. Books that are bound by a leather cover are administered a specialized treatment. Initially, after the execution of steps like mold soot and grime removal, vacuum freeze drying of the pages, deodorizing is effected. Leather bound books require cryogenic free drying. After all these processes are complete, rebinding of the wet books is done in accordance with LBI preservation standards. After all these steps are executed, the document drying process finally comes to an end.

Aperture cards, microfilms and microfiche demand a separate document drying process. After these are completely dried, processes like re-spooling roll film, relabeling and re-housing, dissecting of adhered x-ray films and back file conversions are initiated.

Document drying has its advantages. It is a huge relief from having to worry about securing fresh documents to replace the old and damaged ones. There are several document drying companies these days which offer specialized services. They use the latest technologies and modern equipments and give their clients no reason to their clients. It is much easier to handover the task to them rather than scouting one office to another for getting a copy of your wet document. The methods used by them are full proof and therefore there are no chances of the damage been aggravated. With the task assigned to them, you can be rest assured of the fact that you will be able to retrieve your lost data. So the next time you are stuck in a similar situation, just call a document drying company without any further delay.
