The Global Warming Debate Rages On

By Julie Landry
Jan 9, 2009
There has been a debate over the last ten years over the effects of global warming. There is no doubt that according to data there have been increases to the gasses in the natural greenhouse effect of our world due to increase in carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels. The question in the debate is whether these increases are indeed causing global warming, and if so, what can be done to stop global warming from getting any worse.

With more information readily available today through the internet, people are becoming more aware of the effects of global warming on the environment. The temperature on earth has only increased about one degree Celsius over the last one hundred years; however, this is double the increase from the one hundred years before that. In addition, there have been changed in the number of large storms passing through during hurricane season, storms which are produced by the warm ocean currents worldwide. Since the climate has become warmer, scientists hypothesize that has contributed to the increased number of storms. In addition, the water levels of the oceans has been steadily rising at an increased rate over the past one hundred years as well, which is the period of time in which the world entered the industrial age when more fossil fuels have been burned.

People are becoming more aware of the damage being done to the environment due to pollution and are starting to take simple measures to decrease the damage done on an individual basis. There are a tremendous number of ways to work individually along with environmental groups to help stop global warming. Environmental groups can help stop legislation that will be harmful to the environment as well as helping to promote legislation that will help force large companies to change their carbon dioxide emissions and other pollutants. However, these groups can not do any more than make the general population aware of the damage certain practices are doing to the environment, as well as offering opportunities to contribute to their cause such as through buying a 'stop global warming' bracelet. Each individual must make the choice to change these habits and help to stop global warming.

'Stop global warming' bracelets are one way that individuals can contribute to the cause of helping to stop global warming. The 'stop global warming' bracelets are made from scrap leather so that they do not take much energy or new materials to make them and one hundred percent of the profits go to the Stop Global Warming Fund.
