How To Choose Entry Doors
1: STYLE IS KING
The front door makes a very strong statement about your house. Look for doors that express your home's style as well as your own personal style. Most importantly, your doors should have agreement with the architecture of your home.
2: SECURITY
Steel doors offer the best security, but may not fit your style. Once you find a style that you like, your next step is to check it out for security. Whichever door you pick, make sure it has a deadbolt lock.
3: LASTING POWER
Once you install your new front door, you never want to worry about it again. Find out what maintenance it requires. Ask about rotting, cracking and warping. How often does it need repainting?
4: SEE THE LIGHT
Think about transoms or sidelights. Decorative glass panels will let in a natural light, as well as, allow for a view. Options include glass that limits UV rays, glass that reduces heat loss and tempered impact glass.
5: PRICE CHECK
Double check the price versus the other doors you have looked at. You can find quality doors in all price levels. Usually, the heavier the door, the more expensive.
6: MEASUREMENTS
What size door do you need? Know the size of your rough opening. If adding a new decorative element or architectural interest, do you have to expand the door size?
