The Benefits of A Free Weight Training Routine
There is the constant debate about which training routine is better free weights or machine weights. My preference really is free weights. A free weight training routine will target the exact muscle groups you really want to work on. Many times with machine weights you understand which body part a specific machine is designed to work on but after working out with machine weights you do not feel like you have worked that muscle group out effectively. Many times you notice you allowed other muscle groups to get more benefit from machine exercises than you had planned. This is why I like the effect of free weights.
Free weights specifically target the primary muscle group you want to work on. This is true because there is a more natural element to free weights than machine weights. You use natural motions which work on helping you to focus exactly on that body part. This is how you obtain growth and maximize a workout when you can specifically center in on whatever body part you are trying to develop. You will see faster development with a free weight training routine than with machine weights based on this core idea.
Free weights are more versatile than machine weights too. If you want to work on a specific body part with machine weights you will have to move to a different machine. This is a disadvantage because you are constantly moving from machine to machine. With free weights there is a variety of exercises that come to mind for every body part from head to toe. There is no need to wait in line to use a machine or purchase a specific machine for your home. You can easily tailor your workouts around free weights.
The only downfalls to using free weights is perhaps getting accustomed to performing each exercise right. This is really not a disadvantage because you want to learn how to execute lifts they way they will benefit you the most. You can lift machine weights all day and never receive the results you would from free weights because you are not training 100% of any particular muscle group. You are over compensating most times. A free weight training routine done the right way will get you results quicker.
Everybody wants results fast when they workout but results only come when you know how to use proper form with every exercise you do. Many people bypass form for strength and thereby do not see results. This is why the machines are mostly considered by weight trainers because yes you will get stronger but you basically will not see the growth. Growth is what we are all after. Growth is created with proper form while targeting specific muscle groups. It is imperative to learn form because this is where you will see your results.
