How To Save Your Company Time & Money On Moving Costs

By Laura Buckley
Jan 15, 2009
The goal is to make moving your home, office or corporation go as easy as possible. You and the movers can reach this goal if you follow these suggestions for packing.

- Pack the smaller items beforehand
- Wrapping and taping fragile items prevents breakage
- Try to empty the dresser drawers before moving.
- Stack the small items and boxes before moving.
- Write a list for each box containing many items.
- Clear out the garbage.
- Put the pets in carriers with paper, food and water.
- Have answers ready for any questions.

During the move, with both the movers and you at the new office, some confusion can occur with everyone moving around. You can use these few ideas to reduce the confusion.

1. Plan the location of items before you move in
2. Use the outlying rooms for the furniture until you finish moving
3. Keep out of the movers way
4. Bring everything inside first, then start unpacking
5. Make sure to check for each item as it arrives at the new home
6. Before the movers leave, examine fragile items and boxes for damage.
7. Be ready to pay unless you already paid beforehand.

Label All Items

Moving is a many time event for many people. Most who do this know the importance of labeling boxes. To ensure proper placement of everything by the movers or even if its yourself with moving pods, follow these simple labeling tips to minimize any confusion.

- Write FRAGILE on anything breakable in large print.
- Write the contents of the box on two sides and the box top.
- Write the room and contents on every carton.
- Write TOP on anything needing to stand upright.
- Write on the box, not the tape, using black marker.

Contracts and Estimates

The movers who arrive at the job may not be the people who provided the time frame and moving estimated cost. Problems can arise during the move. If you are familiar with the estimate and the contract, you can eliminate possible confusion about extra costs and hassles.

- What are the fees for extra time and labor?
- What about unseen problems or situations?
- Do you have the paperwork with you?

Using Time Wisely

Both your time and the mover's time are valuable and avoiding any delays by understanding the policies and scheduling helps keep time wasted to a minimum.

Moving from one place to another can be free of complications and hassles. Give moving pods a thought and make sure all your moving estimates are in writing. If you follow the suggestions listed your move can be a controlled and simple one.
