The Sad World With Birth Injuries
Every mother wants her child to be as healthy as possible especially when they are born. Imagine a baby with birth defects and injuries and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Isn't it very sad?
There are many reasons why babies are born with such injuries. These can also equip us with information on how to avoid it.
Age of the mother. If the mother is too young or at the age of thirty five onwards, her baby is at high risk of having birth injuries.
Obesity. Obese pregnant mothers are likely to have high blood pressure and diabetes that can badly affect the fetus inside her womb.
Prolonged Gestation. This happens when the baby is born beyond the due date, where the baby is prone to infections that can result to birth defects.
Hypertension. Although living at the right age, pregnant mothers can have high blood pressures that can even lead to death of the baby and the mother herself in severe cases.
Multiple births. Compare to single birth, the nutritional needs of each fetus in the mother's womb are not concentrated to only one. Therefore, twins and triplets are likely to be born with poor health and poor physical features.
Premature births. This refers to giving birth that is too early too the estimated due date. Just like giving birth to multiple babies, the baby's body is prone to injuries because of its weakness.
Breech. Babies who are born in a breech way (the feet or buttocks are the first ones to go out instead of their head) have high risk of having hip and feet injuries.
Large fetus. Babies with big head and body can make his delivery difficult because he may not fit to his mother's vagina that may result to injuries in spinal cord and nerves.
Improper usage of medicines. Erroneous medication is a big no-no for the mother and to her baby because it can lead to serious physical and mental disorders and even to untimely death.
Medical negligence. Due to doctor's lack of prenatal care, and inappropriate medical attention, can put the fetus to danger and the mother herself.
Upon knowing all the causes of birth injuries, we have to name a few examples of it.
Fractures - this is resulted by breech delivery. Facial Paralysis - this is due to the pressure on the baby's face that results to nerve damage.
Bruises can be acquired by the use of forceps during delivery.
Cerebral palsy - a severe injury that is caused by strain or trauma of the brain that results to loss of movement and other nerve malfunctions.
Erb's Palsy - the infant cannot move his one arm.
No mother in the world can take that their babies have these injuries upon their birth. It will bring a mother a big sadness if she sees her baby under an abnormal condition. So to prevent these from happening, proper prenatal care during pregnancy, eating nutritious foods, and have a healthy lifestyle and environment must be implemented.
