Final Cut Pro General Tips
This article lists quick tips for using Final Cut Pro to create a video. Even though Final Cut Pro can be a bit daunting, but these tips are meant to help you master some skills in order to make a great movie.
1. If you are interested in importing footage from iMovie, first you need to save your iMovie project. After that, highlight the project in the Project Library. Next, click on Share - Export Final Cut XML; here you can select where you wish to save the file. From Final Cut, click on FILE - IMPORT - FCP XML from iMovie.
2. Sometimes if you import outside files you will need to render them. In the Timeline, a red bar may appear at the top. Select IN and OUT on your Timeline to render a segment, and go to Sequence - Render, Render All, or Render Only. You will be able to tell what needs to be rendered (video or audio) from the Canvas.
3. If you want to include an image, just go to File - Import - Files and there are different ways you can add it: Insert with transition, Insert, Overwrite with transition, Overwrite, Replace, Fit to Fill, or Superimpose.
4. To adjust volume levels, go to the bottom left corner of the Timeline to the mountain looking button. When you click on it, lines will appear to run through the middle of all the bars. Now you can adjust the volume by dragging the line up or down.
5. If you want to change the size of the bars in your Timeline, click on the button in the bottom left hand corner of your Timeline that looks like four bars. If you want to add a track, right click in the left hand section of the Timeline, and you can Add Track, Delete Track, or Reset Panel.
6. Finally, when working on projects, don't forget that you may have bars locked or unlocked, or muted!
