Get Out of Credit Card Debt - What If Your Spouse Is Not On Board With Paying Off Your Debt?

If you're trying to get out of credit card debt you may feel this article focus's more on relationships as opposed to paying off your credit card debt. However, good relationships are a very important part of paying debt. You'll need backing to keep up with your efforts. In fact it will need to be a team effort.

The last thing you want to do is ruin a relationship over money you owe the credit card companies. There are limited choices if your spouse wants to focus on other things as opposed to paying off your debts. Let's take a look at them.

For one you can get divorced. That's just plain stupid if you love your spouse. It's just not worth it. Also, that can get you into more debt. Plus it can ruin your entire world (not to mention your spouse and kids lives as well).

You can think you know best go behind her back and start paying the debt with your family's extra money each month. That doesn't work to well because it's just plain dishonest.

Lastly you can just give in not make any effort at all. That won't work either because all it will do is harbor resentment. Believe me I know from experience. It's not a good situation at all because you'll feel like you're doing nothing for yourself.

The solution to all this is very simple. You'll need to meet on common ground with your spouse. Since everything in a working relationship is based on give and take and making an effort to pay off extreme amounts of debt is no different. Even though you may settle for a little less money to go towards your debt you have to keep in mind that it's better than nothing.

You should also keep in mind that your spouse will and should see things differently than you will. This is not a bad thing. In fact we all need that in order to put our best foot forward. Always try to look at other points of view from your spouse as suggestions. You'll be better off that way.

If you want to get out of credit card debt and need your spouses backing, then you're best bet is to put a plan together to pay off your debt. Then you'll want to discuss your plan with your spouse and see what's viable to pay off without compromising your family's needs.
