In these troubling times, it is essential that we step back and make a little time for rest and relaxation. It is especially important for couples to spend a little time rekindling the romance that first brought them together. A getaway at a romantic Southern bed and breakfast serves as a perfect little respite from the daily grind.

If you want to find the best inns of the South, head to ILoveInns.com. This award-winning website is run by American Historic Inns, publishers of more than 2.7 million travel guides. After an exhaustive search, the writers and staff at AHI have compiled their annual list of the Top Ten Most Romantic Inns of 2009. The following Southern bed and breakfasts are featured on this year's list.

Melbourne Beach, a picture perfect Florida beach town, is the home of the romantic Port d'Hiver bed and breakfast. This Florida beach inn offers a charming assortment of elegant guest rooms, many with stunning ocean views; in fact the beach is just 200 feet away. The rooms range from the posh Carriage House, which features views of the ocean and courtyard, as well as a king-size bamboo bed, corner Jacuzzi tub and a private porch, to smaller but still wonderful guest chambers such as Walter's Room. This sweet room features a Tiger maple queen bed topped with French linens, dark beamed ceilings, a quaint Captain's closet and best of all, a porch with an ocean view. Whatever room you choose, you will enjoy the sumptuous full breakfasts served either in the cheerful dining room or in the privacy of your guest room.

Although newly built, the French Quarter Inn is located in historic downtown Charleston near the town's famous market area. The French-inspired decor is a mix of historic and contemporary and the result is full of warmth and romance. Rooms and suites at this Charleston inn include plenty of amenities, including the unique Sound Sleep Pillow Menu, where guests can choose from a selection of pillows to ensure a good night's sleep. Some suites also include a whirlpool tub, fireplace or private balcony. This South Carolina inn also offers Tristan, a four-diamond rated restaurant that serves brunch, lunch and dinner.

You've probably heard the phrase, "Virginia is for lovers," and the proof is easily found at The Inn at Warner Hall. This historic Virginia inn is found in a gracious, restored plantation home, which once belonged to George Washington's great-great-grandfather. There are 11 spacious guest rooms, each individually decorated with period antiques and beds topped with fluffy pillows and down comforters. Gourmet breakfasts get the day off to a great start. Spend your time exploring Colonial Williamsburg, a mere half hour away, or an hour drive will take you to historic Jamestown. On the other hand, you could just relax and enjoy the Chesapeake Bay views from this Virginia bed and breakfast. The inn's acclaimed restaurant is famous for its five-course tasting dinners that are served on Friday and Saturday nights.

To find out more about these three inns, as well as more than 19,000 other unique B&Bs, country inns and boutique hotels, go to iLoveInns.com.
