Why Are Video Games Addictive To So Many Kids

Video games are probably the first real addiction most people, especially boys, when they were kids. Kids cannot take their minds off of playing games. It is a habit that consumes much of their thought process even while sitting in class. Most parents go through the same experience of calling their kids and not getting a response because the kid is so engrossed into the video game they are playing. Just why are video games addictive?

Video games are addictive for a number of reasons but the first reason is perhaps the fact that people like playing games. Playing video games has a higher appeal than playing cards or playing football in the yard, or playing chess. Games like chess and checkers that require players to think and strategize are not a popular draw for kids because kids do not like thinking so hard. They do not consider those type games as fun and thereby definitely would not be addictive. Checkers and chess look boring and old so kids are looking for modern games that have a greater appeal.

Video games will always be addictive because of their graphics. Graphics are improving each year due to game improvements, television improvements, tv and game console cables improvement, and so on. Kids are attracted to the way games look. Games are becoming more real looking in their appearance. The creativity that creates the images really stuns gamers and draws them into these games. Video games are fun to look at and fun to play.

Interactivity is another answer to the question why are video games addictive. Games have multi-player functions and give gamers the option to play online. This is a great option with video games because you will have a much more difficult time getting bored playing these games. Kids are always looking for someone to play against so with multiplayer and online player functions, kids can challenge other players around the world. Games have a much harder time getting put on a shelf if you can always find someone to challenge.

Competing against others in video games is probably the most real addiction in video games. Gamers love to compete and knowing you are better than someone else in a game gives you bragging rights. You may not be better than that person in anything else in life but competing against them in video games gives you an edge over them in something. This is very addictive.

Why are video games addictive can be summed up even more with the fact that video games beat boredom. When kids get bored, instead of taking a nap they stay up and play video games. Playing games give them something to do.
