Why Being A Good Leader Is Vital To Your MLM Success

If you are in any MLM business, even if you are just starting out, you will know that the glue that keeps the whole MLM phenomenon together is the closeness shared by those in both your upline and your downline.

When you just started out in your MLM business, you will have met some of your upline who were successful. You admired them and wanted the opportunities and things that they had. Your upline will have looked after you, nurtured you and, most of all, encouraged you with their belief in you. As a result, you will have found the motivation to find other people and you are to be congratulated for your efforts. These people are now your downline and it is your responsibility to take care of them. This starts your next phase as an MLM business owner.

You are now a leader and will be called upon to provide support and guidance. Its not easy being a leader. Very few people are ever born leaders, but there are a few things that you can learn and use to make you much better at being the type of leader that helps motivate your team, catapulting them, as well as yourself, to success. So let's take a look at some of the things that will help you be the type of leader that gets the results.

How To Help Motivate Your Team

As we mentioned before, your upline were the inspiration that motivated you to get a downline in the first place. Your upline were the type of role models that made you want to succeed and that is what you have to set out to achieve with your downline. So watch your upline carefully and ask them how they have helped motivate people in their downline. Never be afraid or too proud to ask for advice. After all, isn't MLM all about duplication?

Start off by always practicing what you are preaching. Actions always speak louder than words. By having the motto of doing what you say, you are showing your downline how to be motivated and succeed in their MLM business by your own actions. To achieve this, you must truly believe in your MLM business, the products and your success. By believing in yourself, you are paving the way to your success, as well as your downline.

Give credit where it is due. People love to be praised and appreciated for their hard work. Notice the small things, because the small things are sometimes the most important things of all. Even if your downline doesn't begin making you megabucks right away, let them know that you are there for them and let them know that you think they are great for working so hard to succeed in their business.

You will be surprised at how much harder your downline will try if you encourage them and notice the small things, as well as their big milestones. Take time out to spend with individuals in your downline and get to know them and their goals on a personal level. This will make them feel like they know you and are able to turn to you when they need support. Knowing your downline will also give you an idea of things that they might find motivating.

Be motivated yourself, but always have the time for others. If you can simply be there for your downline and help them help themselves, you will be working together to get the results. Have you ever heard of the saying that you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink? Well, this goes for your downline, too, show them how to succeed, give them all the tools and encouragement they need, but let them motivate themselves, they have to want to succeed.

Challenge your downline and the way of thinking that through the course of their lives they have been conditioned to think. Find ways to show them that anything is achievable if you put your mind to it and truly believe that you can achieve it. Offer your downline tapes, books and motivational anecdotes to help them see that there is more to life and if they want more, all they have to do is choose to succeed.


To be a great leader, you must use your actions to show your downline that anything is possible. Be inspirational, outgoing and always make yourself available to offer advice, as well as encouragement. Now that you have a downline, you are part of the glue that keeps your MLM business together. If you don't lead your downline and help to inspire them, they are destined to fail before they even begin. So be there for them and show them the way to success by your actions and by noticing the small things.
