The Clothing Of The 70's
If you have been invited to attend a retro-themed party that will be playing Motown and some remixes, it will be really fun to dress up. Bring out the fashion magazines and online articles featuring the clothing of the 70's and prepare to shine!
The era of the 70's was one of the most colorful moments in fashion history. Contributing much to making the grungiest vintage rock pieces look glamorous were Tina Turner, Madonna, and many more. People let their hair down and painted the town red garbed in psychedelic, bold, dramatic outfits and geometric prints, deriving much inspiration from their favorite musicians, movie and TV stars. John Travolta's phenomenal rise to fame via Saturday Night Fever had many disco-loving people hitting the dance floor in groovy outfits. They also danced the night away to the perky songs of Diana Ross clad in shiny hotpants and Spandex tops or stretch halter jumpsuits. Bell bottoms and flared jeans were also the order of the day. The young ones mixed and matched fabrics and exuded folksy styles that would have been perfect at Woodstock.
At the retro-themed party that may pay tribute to the famous singers of the 70s era, you will most likely see a profusion of colors and elevated hemlines. You can go hippy chic and tote along a fringed handbag, or choose a dress that screams Motown glamour. You also must not forget the accessories big colorful bangles and hoop earrings and big forehead-gracing headbands in glittery or bold colors, with which to pull together your 70s-inspired look. You will most likely bump into women in mini skirts, or hot pants, flared Empire dress, or one of those glamorous catsuits, and men wearing wigs to mimic some famous singers and bands of the 70s era, or free love- or pop art-inspired shirts.
Footwear trends of the 70s included chunky platform shoes and clogs. You need not wear these to your party, though, if you don't feel like you can use the extra height and if your outfit is thoroughly 70s already. If you are not part of the baby boomer generation and belong to Generation Y, you can gain a much broader understanding and appreciation of the culture and history of 70s era by browsing as many retro fashion online sites as you can. The clothing of the 70's evoked fun, color and drama and it will be a crying shame if you miss out on any of these elements.
