Web 2.0 Social Media -Top 5 Sites and Tactics
Web 2.0 has been a big buzzword since the first quarter of 2007. I'm going to talk to you today about the hottest web 2.0 properties in 2009 and the only ones you should be focusing on.
There are thousands of sites in the web 2.0 social media space and getting an incoming link to your site from each of them is great in theory. But do you really have hundreds of hours of time to devote to this incoming link getting?
This can and should be outsourced when you have it in your budget to do so because getting links to your site from these trusted, authority domain properties will greatly help your own sites' rankings in the major search engines Google, Yahoo, MSN, and Ask.
But today I'm going to focus with you on the web 2.0 social sites which are getting all the buzz and adding thousands and thousands of users everyday to their databases.
Facebook adds over 150,000 new users everyday. MySpace still has relevance. YouTube is the king of video. Dailymotion is also good for video.
Twitter is the new star and darling of microblogging and is an outstanding one-to-many instant messenger.
Digg and Propeller are the kings of social news though I have to be honest with you and disclose I focus the time I have available to using Digg because it still gives html hard coded and followed links. This means excellent link juice to the web pages you (or someone else) submits to Digg.
Propeller does a redirect to a page within their site so you don't get the power of the propeller domain linking to your site. But it still gets millions of visitors every month to its domain so is worthwhile for direct traffic.
So now you know the sites I focus on and the ones I recommend you focus on. To recap:
-Facebook -Twitter -Digg -MySpace -YouTube
Each site should get at least some portion of your your time daily. Building a following and a presence on these sites takes time. You can outsource this but I don't recommend doing so for Facebook and MySpace.
Watching videos on YouTube, Digging stories, and posting Twitters can be assigned to someone you trust in your organization. But make sure it's someone you trust who will represent you, your company, and your brand well because social media and web 2.0 messages travel at lightspeed and are very viral.
If your person puts out the wrong communication it can do heavy damage to you because it will get passed around. The benefits to having a presence on these free sites far outweighs any potential negatives.
Focus on these 5 because of their power and massive user bases. Web 2.0 social media is a great, ever changing, and ever growing place to be so make your presence known on these 5 sites. I'm telling you to focus on these because this will take you between 1 - 1.5 hours per day and you also have other business responsibilities.
Do these simple things and your business will get massive value out of web 2.0 social media sites.
