If you are planning on spending over a week in Buenos Aries, you most economical and your most comfortable option is to rent a temporary or vacation apartment. The city is full of them, so you basically have unlimited options on quality, price, and location. Possibly your most difficult decision will be to decide what neighborhood you want to stay in.
Buenos Aires is a massive city broken down into dozens of neighborhoods, as is any city. However, as a visitor, you will probably be spending most of your time in Recoleta, Palermo, San Telmo, the Micocentro, or Belgrano. Here is a quick breakdown as to what each place has to offer, helping you decide which location best fits your needs.

Recoleta is an elegant neighborhood full of trendy shops, restaurants, and bars. It is also where the famous cemetery is located, that contains the tomb of Eva Peron. It is in the center of Buenos Aires, and as long as you are close to Santa Fe, it is easy to get to any part of the city. It is only mildly touristy, and fairly safe, and the only major downside is it can be very expensive. It is also a very busy neighborhood, full of people and traffic throughout the day.

Palermo is a massive neighborhood, and for this reason has been broken down into several sections, including Palermo Hollywood, Palermo Viejo, Palermo Soho, Alto Palermo and Las Canitas. The area is full of parks and trees, as well as the trendiest shops and restaurants. It used to be a residential section of the city, but has now become very commercial. Although many tourists stay in this neighborhood, it does not feel too touristy. This neighborhood also has the greatest number of apartments available for rent.

San Telmo is a beautiful neighborhood, full of old buildings, with plenty of interesting architecture. The area has become touristy, and is now a mix of tourists, Argentine's who have lived their entire life, and artists who have moved into the neighborhood. There are great restaurants, bars, and plenty of Tango, and on Sundays, a huge antics market full of vendors and performers. The downside of San Telmo is it is slightly more dangerous than some neighborhoods, and it is a bit out of the way. Going to Palermo takes about 45 min, and 1 hour to Belgrano.

The microcentro is the hub of activity in Buenos Aires, and is full of typical Argentine restaurants and bars. If you like being in the middle of it all, this is the place for you. Getting to any of the other major areas is only a 10 peso cab ride away, and here you can feel the vibe of the city all night long. This is not a good place if you like to live in a quiet, relaxed area.

Belgrano is another major shopping area, combined with numerous bars and restaurants. There are some very expensive areas, and you can find spots that are quiet, away from the craziness of the city. The major downside of Belgrano is the distance. You are a long way from the center.

There you have it. This should help you decide in what area you'd like to live in, and will make your search for temporary apartment rentals much easier. Now is the fun part to search for a fun apartment that you want to live in.
