The Many Different Types Of Kayaks
When you think of a kayak, you may just be thinking of one type of kayak that you would use in a lake or slow moving river. However, there are many different types of kayaks out there that are designed specifically for different tasks and types of water. Here are most of the types of kayaks that you will find.
The different types of kayaks can also be made of different materials. Anything from wood, fiberglass, molded plastics, and other materials are used. A lot of what determines what a kayak will be made out of will be what the kayak will be disgned for in the water.
Recreational kayaks are probably the type that you will see in the stores. These can be used mainly for anyone who is looking to get out on the lake and quietly paddle around and enjoy the scenery. Sure, you can also have fun paddling fast as well but this is probably mainly meant for just the usual recreational use.
Sea kayaks are just like the name says, for the sea. These can be found in both one person and two person models. A lot of these kayaks are known to have lots of storage for everything you need for a day out on the sea.
Whitewater kayaks are made for fast running white water rivers. These have to be one of the most exciteing kayaks out there because of the water that you run them on. Experience is a music for these as well. These kayaks are usually smaller and easier to maneuver.
Racing kayaks are meant for racing and are very narrow and long.
Surf kayaks are narrow like a racing kayak and are designed for catching waves. These are great for water rescues as well because they handle waves very well and get quickly get out to a person in need.
Inflatable kayaks are just like they say, inflatable with air. These are very good recreational type of kayak. The only problem with these is that they are more fragile. However, they are the easiest to transport.
As you can see, there is a lot to kayaking. If you are just looking to get into the sport the best thing to do when choosing your kayak is to look at what kinds of water are available to you along with the type of kayaking that you are most interested in.
