Should You Mount Your Antenna On Your Roof Or In Your Attic?
Increasing in popularity by the day is the antenna. Your first reaction might be a negative one, but the antenna is not as old, outdated, and unfashionable as you might think. The antenna might be old technology but its enhanced features are anything but outdated. Boasting new and enhanced cosmetics and stronger features, the antenna is becoming the popular alternative to pricey cable or satellite service.
There are three places you can install your new antenna: indoors by your TV, outdoors on your roof, and in your attic. Those who reside in the city will usually install their antenna indoors because they are close enough to the broadcast towers, and those who live farther away from a major metropolitan area or in a rural setting will be better off with an outdoor antenna, which has up to a 100-mile or more range. While mounting the antenna outdoors on the roof is good enough for some, others want the antenna out of sight and opt for the attic.
The two biggest problems you will probably face by mounting your antenna in your attic are space and poor reception. Some attics are small and have low ceilings, so there is a very limited amount of space to move around, let alone to mount an antenna. Measure the space in your attic and measure the length of the antenna to see if it will fit in the first place.
The second problem you will encounter is reception. A few things that can hinder an antenna's performance are electronics and household appliances because of the electromagnetic chaos and the building materials that comprise your home. In an attic, you need to take into consideration the insulation, wood, aluminum, and metal materials that make up your roof and chimney. This is not to say that it will not work at all because there are people who have tried and are receiving reception and perfect picture clarity.
Mounting it on your roof is the most popular method that people use. It will not require a handy man to install it because each antenna will come with a complete set of directions to help you install it correctly, assuming you bought the antenna brand new and from a reputable place. It is a good idea to buy from a reputable company, whether it is a retail store or online seller, who offers customer assistance and troubleshooting help in the event that you run into any problems.
