The Best Ways for Managing Your Study Workload
Are you one of those who always place more importance on recreation rather than studying? Do you tend to put your studies off until tomorrow? If you are, who could blame you because nobody in their right mind would want to stay indoors studying, rather than having a crazy night out with their mates?
But put off working today and tomorrow something else will come up and the same for Sunday afternoon and before you know it is ten o'clock on Sunday night, the report is due in at nine on Monday morning and you have about twenty hours of writing to complete. Well, you could just call in sick.
Does this scenario sound all too familiar to you? If it does, congratulations you are like practically everyone else on the planet. No one likes to do mundane things when there are things that we enjoy out there waiting to be done. That is just good old human nature. The consequence of this of course is that by putting it off, you are adding more stress at the end and making your life so much harder.
Rather than leaving everything right until the last minute, maintaining a list and working through it accordingly is a far better solution. A list not only helps to ensure you don't forget anything, but it also allows you to work through tasks in order of priority. The benefit of following this method is that for the most part, you'll end up having more free time than you have currently. Also, because you're eliminating the cause for stress, you'll find you enjoy the good times even more as well.
While many people tend to think that they should complete all the small tasks first, before tackling the big important ones, in reality it works the other way around. Providing you tackle all the worst jobs first, the small jobs will be a breeze and before you know it, you'll have quality free time on your hands. Likewise, if you have a specific job which you know will take longer than average, make a commitment to tackle it at a certain time and make sure you've set aside enough time to do it.
Another big waster of time is cell-phones. They all have voice mail; you would be wise to use it when studying. You should treat your study time as 'do not disturb' time or you will find yourself spending a few moments on this call, an hour on that call and before you know it, you are back into the time crunch again.
The trick is to make the list and stick to it. As much as I have come to hate adages. The old saying that you need to learn to study smarter, not harder is all too true. Especially in today's world where we are juggling school, family, friends, work and play.
Admittedly, what works for one may not work for others. The truth is though, provided you make any necessary adjustments to best meet your own requirements the list method always works. With a little bit of experimenting, you'll soon discover the formula that suits you best.
