Singapores Money Making Real Estate

By Jacob George

Despite being the tiny dot that it is on the map, the Urban Redevelopment Authority URA of Singapore managed to divide the city-state into 5 regions, Central, East, North, North-East and West. The Central region contains the Central Area which is Singapores central business district and as such is the most densely populated region in Singapore. The central area is Singapores prime commercial area and the place every business craves real estate.

The central area itself is divided into 11 sections, each more important to the other. One of these areas is the Downtown Core, a sky scraper filled 266 hectares of densely populated land. Singapores Supreme Court and Parliament House are placed here. Downtown Core has been Singapores financial hub since 1823, when todays Singapore was a mere colony of natives and immigrants.

Marina South and Marina Centre are two other business areas, formed around the famous Marina Bay. Marina Bay is an artificial bay, a body of water created by reclaiming land from the sea. From the time of reclamation in 1970, Marina South has seen major developments, a large resort called The Marina Bay Sands is due to be completed in 2009. Apart from this there are also plans to build the Marina Bay Financial Centre and an International Cruise Terminal to replace the old one. Such developments are fast attracting foreign investors to build hotels, malls and other entertainment and recreational areas.

Another famous commercial district is Orchard Road-a shopping and entertainment zone for locals and especially for tourists. Orchard Road has over 20 high end malls, not to mention numerous hotels, restaurants, landmarks, coffee shops and nightclubs. Orchard Roads popularity has increased due to very good transportation facilities. There are three MRT stations along with multiple bus stops serviced by a large number of buses, plus very good private transport means. Another district famous with the tourist and locals is the Newton District for the Newton Circus or the Newton Hawker Centre for, obviously, its food stalls and hawkers. It comes to life during the evenings and stays alive well into the night.

Outram is another very popular financial and commercial district in Singapore. Although not an entertainment complex, it houses many important government buildings and offices, like the Singapore General Hospital and many other health centers, as well as the building of the Health Sciences Authority. Another important building is the Police Cantonment Complex.
