Clean Air Purifier
A good clean air purifier can really make a big difference in your health, particularly if you suffer from allergies or chronic illnesses. In a typical, modern city, there are thousands of different types of particles floating around in the air, and any one of them can be contributing to health problems.
I used to get sinus infections all the time, and I mistakenly thought there was no way to avoid it. I would get especially bad ones in September, when the weather started to change. I tried all kinds of things. I was put on antibiotics, steroid nasal sprays, and many other treatments. The thing that finally took care of them, however, was a simple clean air filter.
This did not make a lot of sense to me, because my sinus infections really were infections. Why would a clean air purifier which only filters out allergens cure a sinus infection? The way my doctor explained it was that allergens irritate the sinus passages, making it harder for them to drain. The infection could not clear out because my sinus passages were always somewhat swollen up from all the allergens I was breathing in. By decreasing the number of pollutants in the atmosphere, the clean air purifier let my sinuses stay clear and clean. Any small infections I would get would go away almost immediately and not have time to fester inside of my nasal cavities.
This explanation made a lot of sense to me, but it didn't explain how clean air purifiers work for some conditions. I have a friend who used to come down with the flu at the drop of a hat, and she claims that they clean air purifier stops her from coming down with the virus. Since viruses are too small to be swept up in a purifier, I can't figure out how that would work. Maybe it just leaves her with a stronger immune system, which helps her to defend against any sort of infection.
There are many different kinds of cleaner purifier on the market, but the two principal models are the ionizing and filtering type. The filtering ones have activated charcoal and HEPA filters that cut out the pollutants when the air is circulated through the filter. Ionizing ones run electric current through air that is passed through the filter, causing air pollutants to clump together and stick to the filter. A lot of people have a strong preference for one or the other, but it really depends what you are doing. For small rooms, an ionizing filter can do wonders. For a larger room, however, I've always found that the increased airflow of a HEPA clean air purifier is the best choice. But to each his own I guess.
